A part in the book which demonstrates this is: "So, Grace, hows school?" i asked myself. Dad nodded, eyes on the baby koala now struggling in the guests arms. "Oh iy's fine." i countinued, and Dad made a minbling noise of agreement. I added, "Nothing special, aside form the load of pandas they brought in, and the teachers abandoning us to canabalistic savages." I paused to see if I could cathc his attention yet, then pressed on." The whole building caught fire, then i gailed drama, and then sex, sex, sex." Dad's eyes abruptly focused, and he turned to me and frowned. "What did you say they were teahcing you in schoool?". Their lack of presence around the house and interest in Grace has made her independent, to cook, clean, and take care of herself. Dispite the lack of parental support and consitisies in a normal teenage realationship, Grace still proves to be loyal, open-minded, and independant.
